Boris The Blade - Tides Of Damnation

I had to review this EP which was released last year for a couple of simple reasons. Firstly, over half a year later and 'Tides Of Damnation' still gets high rotation on my stereo and in my car. It's also one of the most impressive debut EP's I've heard for as long as I can remember. Brutal and relentless from start to finish.

Boris The Blade are a 5 piece Death Metal band from Melbourne, Australia. Since its release Boris The Blade have done nothing but promote and tour, spreading the word around Australia and the World about this new and exciting band. People have listened and Boris have gained a strong fan base over the past 12 months. They also back it up with intense live shows that will have you going crazy in the mosh pit. Something which grabbed my attention was the adding of Roman Koester (ex-guitarist of The Red Shore) who certainly knows a thing or two about playing Death Metal. This addition to Boris The Blade can only mean good things to come. 'Tides Of Damnation' starts off fast and punishing with impressive and strong vocals from Daniel Sharp who is an absolute beast. The first track 'Like Wolves' features Chris CJ McMahon who adds his own brutality to the mix. Signal The Firing Squad front man Kyson Shepherd also makes an appearance on the title track. The vocals on this album are very good, low guttural growls and screams that sound like they're coming straight from hell. There are breakdowns aplenty on this 6 track EP, each being harder and heavier than the last. I'm very excited for what Boris The Blade will come out with in the future, I've heard they've been practising in the studio working on their debut album. If this EP is anything to go by, well then we are definitely in for something devastating.
