Resist The Thought - Sovereignty

Sydney's Resist The Thought have recently released their second effort titled Sovereignty and it is definitely a huge step forward in the career of this young and talented band. The first thing I noticed when listening to the album is the heavy All Shall Perish influence, not just because the frontman of ASP Eddie Hermida features on the song 'Pledge Of Aversion' but you can tell that there is a huge amount of respect and influence on their brutal sound.

The album starts off with 'Legion' and unleashes chaos with shredding guitars and some of the best vocals I've heard from a band who play this style of music. Almost reminiscent of Trevor Strnad (The Black Dahlia Murder) with those shrieking and haunting screams and evil and brutal lows. Resist The Thought have not only stepped it up and become one of the top bands to watch in Australia, but I think they have made themselves known internationally and won new fans after this album. Extermination is the third track and the boys also made a video for this incredible song aswell. It features some awesome and catchy riffs, trademark breakdowns and those incredible vocals I mentioned.

After listening to their previous album Damnation and then this, I can hear so much progression and a band who has evolved into a serious contender as a standout in not only the Aussie metal scene, but Worldwide. I'd love to see these guys over in Europe and America, touring and showing everyone just how brutal and talented they are. Another thing I noticed on this album which really impressed me was the guitar solos and how well they are executed. CJ McMahon (Thy Art Is Murder) features on a track called 'Resurrect The Reaper' which was released in 2011 and included a video which was very well recieved and has had over fifty thousand views on YouTube. This has to be one of my personal favourite Resist The Thought tracks, the mixture of CJ and Rhys as vocalists just creates this beast and heaviness that punches you in the face. Take that and when you add the blast beats, breakdowns and shredding guitars you then have one very brutal recipe and a finished product that will satisfy those ear drums of yours.

This bands sound seems to be getting bigger and better and I'm very excited for them with what they could possibly achieve. If you buy this album (which you most definitely should) you also get a bonus DVD featuring 'The Making Of Sovereignty' and the videos for 'Extermination' and 'Resurrect The Reaper.' Well worth spending your money on let me tell you. Along with Thy Art Is Murder, it's great to see a band so heavy getting there name out there and not losing an inch of brutality while doing it.

Standout tracks: Resurrect The Reaper, Extermination, Legion, Pledge Of Aversion.

8/10
