Alice Through The Windshield Glass - Brutalis Australis

It's a good time to be a fan of heavy music in Australia with so many quality releases this year and still more to come. Alice Through The Windshield Glass have now joined that list with their debut album 'Brutalis Australis' and while it isn't anything ground breaking, it definitely grabbed my attention and is exactly what a Death Metal/Deathcore album should sound like.

I guess the best way to describe ATTWG's style of music would be Technical Deathcore, as the album shows some brilliant musicianship. Riddled with catchy groove and infectious riffs that are technical and interesting enough to keep the listener engaged. Whilst also featuring some devastating breakdowns right through the album which will have you banging that head of yours.
I have known about this 5-piece Deathcore band from Sydney for a couple of years now, and it's great to see such a massive improvement from their 2009 EP 'Keep Your Eyes On The Road.'

ATTWG have played their fair share of shows trying to get the band noticed and recognized, they've performed with some well-known acts such as All Shall Perish, Carnifex and Impending Doom.
Now with the release of 'Brutalis Australis' it seems that this band has one mission and that's to dominate the Metal scene and show the World that brutality that Alice can offer. This album is quite simply one of the heaviest things to come out of Australia this year, probably along with the new Signal The Firing Squad release. It's got everything to keep fans of heavy music happy and wanting more, from technicality to bone-crushing breakdowns which aren't recycled and are some of the best sounding breakdowns I've heard all year. The vocals are refreshing; you can really understand the lyrics clearly while still keeping them harsh and heavy. The length of 'Brutalis Australis' is also something that I am happy with; most Deathcore bands these days release very short albums. But with 11 solid tracks and 40 minutes of pure brutality, it's very satisfying and well layed out. After every listen (and I have listened to this album quite a few times now) I get a new favourite song and discover little bits of greatness here and there. The lyrical content is very impressive and a good insight into the darker and dangerous side of Australia, with topics ranging from natural disasters, riots, crime and deadly species.

I'm very impressed with 'Brutalis Australis' as I'm sure you will be when you listen to this awesome piece of heavy Australian music. Its bands like this that keep the scene alive and push the envelope in terms of creating something we can all be proud of and show our friends. Alice Through The Windshield Glass are definitely well worth checking out and I'm sure these guys will do great things for Aussie Metal. I can't wait to catch a live show and witness the heaviness of this great band.

Standout tracks: A Painful Awakening, Brutalis Australis and Delusional Ramblings Of A Dying Man.
